Helping young women realise the opportunities in tech
Women in Tech Coding, or net programming, is becoming increasingly popular among young women, with organisations growing up such as Code First Girls, set up by Alice Bentnck.
“For many years, technology has had a stigma attached to it that has meant young women have never even considered getting involved,” she says.
“We need to help young women realise the possibilities that technology provides - that it can enable creativity, problem solving and self-expression."
Creating an avenue for women in tech
Technology is not only creating new jobs, but it's infiltrating existing, previously non-technical, jobs. For women to be able to access as many career opportunities as possible, it's vital that they attain and build on their technical skills and knowledge.
At Code First: Girls, we now not only provide coding courses, but career awareness talks with tech startups and tech companies to showcase the careers and roles that they can access with their new found skill."
